Steffie Boucher

Steffie Boucher (she/they) is a multidisciplinary Black queer artist of Caribbean descent based in Montreal. After studying engineering, she moved there in 2017, where she discovered the art world, particularly dance. By 2019, she shifted towards a practice in visual arts.

After two years of practice, she began formal training in commercial photography in 2022 at Collège Marsan to refine her technical skills. Today, she develops a hybrid approach that combines photography and video. She creates animations and stop-motion animation, and also produces her own soundtracks and sound effects.

Her artistic research focuses on structures, as well as urban and bodily architectures. The dancing body plays a central role: she seeks to integrate and evoke it in her work. Observing, revealing, and recomposing forms and geometries of the world lie at the heart of her audiovisual practice.

Trees inhabit her imagination in an obsessive way. Through capturing them, she attempts to uncover the mystery of this fascination, revealing an intimate tension: although deeply drawn to nature, her body remains rooted in the city, where it has always lived and evolved.

Closely connected to the performing arts, she remains actively involved in Montreal’s dance scene, which she supports through photography, video, and communication.
